The Historical Naples’ Waterfront and the Reconversion of the Military Locations: The Acton Dock, the Bourbon Dockyard and the San Vincenzo Pier

La rénovation de la zone portuaire historique de Naples fournit l’occasion de délocaliser les établissements militaires actuellement situés dans la zone de la citadelle autour du dock Acton. Ce dernier a été construit dans la seconde moitié du xvii^e siècle et des ajouts, comme le bassin et la cale sèche, ont été construits à proximité au cours du xix^e siècle quand l’embarcadère San Vicenzo a été édifié et que la Marine continue à utiliser. Tous les bâtiments militaires sont actuellement en place mais ne sont pas exploités pleinement. En revanche, ils pourraient être valorisés par un usage civil et touristique en raison de la proximité du centre ville. L’objectif de cet article est d’évaluer le projet de reconstruction du front de mer historique de Naples dans le cadre d’un accord entre l’Autorité portuaire et la Surintendance de l’architecture et de l’environnement de Naples. Ce projet, fondé sur une enquête historique et l’analyse des constructions et de l’environnement côtier, a été le point de départ pour une réorganisation complète de la citadelle et une nouvelle relation entre la ville et le port dans les années 2000.Mots-clés : Naples, port historique, conservation. The refurbishment of Naples’ historical harbour zone provides an opportunity to replace the Military establishments that are situated there in the citadel zone around the Acton Dock. The latter was built in the second half of the 17th century and a number of additions, such as the basin and the dry dock were added in the neighbouring area throughout the 19th century, when the San Vincenzo Pier was built and which the Navy continued to use. All the military buildings are currently in situ, but are not being used to their advantage. This highlights their potential for civil and touristic purposes, considering their proximity to the town centre. The objective of this article is to evaluate the historical Neapolitan waterfront reconstruction project based on the agreement between the Port Authority and the Architectural and Environmental Surintendence of Naples. This project, based on a historical survey and a thorough analysis of the built-up sea-front and coastal environment, was an appropriate starting point for a completely new reorganization of the citadel and a new connection between the town and the port in the years 2000.Keywords : Naples, Historical Waterfront, Conservation.
