L’AIU et le judaïsme marocain en 1949 : l’émergence d’une nouvelle démarche politique
Yaron Tsur
This article deals with two major political actions lead by the Alliance in favor of Morocco Jews in 1949 : i.e. on the one hand a project for the improving of their living conditions and on another hand a correspondence with Sultan Mohammed V. The proposal for a great reform was regarded by the protectorate officials as the consequence of an international Jewish plan deeply influenced by Zionist ideology. The correspondence between President Cassin and the sultan shows that, although the assimilatory ideology of the Alliance was influenced by Zionism, the organization was far from being Zionist. In fact, it simultaneously identified, oddly enough, with both French patriotism and pro-Zionism.
