La reconstruction de la bibliothèque de l’Alliance israélite universelle, 1945-1955
Jean-Claude Kuperminc
When the Germans enter Paris in June 1940, the Alliance library is an internationally respected institution in the field of Jewish studies. It possesses rare written documents and is a useful instrument for academic searchers. From 1940 to 1944, the library is the victim of an organized plundering. At the same period, the occupying forces use it as a stocking place for their spoils. This article aims at showing how the Alliance managed to reorganize a library whose directors keep succeeding to one another. It insists on Edmond-Maurice Levy’s work and on several ambitious projects which proove its vitality.
