Dessin et développement cognitif

Nous rappelons comment l’enfant devient un dessinateur. Nous décrivons ensuite l’évolution du dessin du bonhomme en articulant deux dimensions : le “ plus ” qui rend compte de l’augmentation du nombre d’éléments dessinés et l’ “ autrement ” qui marque les transformations de la morphologie du bonhomme. La répétition du dessin du bonhomme permet à l’enfant d’acquérir une habileté qui évolue au cours du développement. Cette évolution est analysée en considérant la façon dont l’enfant peut soit remanier la procédure de dessin habituelle soit agir “ contre ” cette procédure habituelle pour en expérimenter une nouvelle. L’exemple du “ bonhomme habillé d’un long manteau ” illustre cette analyse.

Drawing and cognitive development
In this paper, an analysis of the development of children’s drawing is presented. A developmental sequence in children’s drawing of the human figure is proposed in two dimensions : “ more ” when the child adds more details and “ otherwise ” when the child modifies the morphology. Human figure is one among the most frequent topics and the repeated reproduction of this figure allows the children to acquire an increasing drawing skill. Children become apt to modify their drawings when they acquire the ability to manipulate their usual procedure. The example of the drawing of a “ person with a long coat ” illustrates our analysis.
