Heuristique et ethnographie historique

Le dessein de l’ethnographie est de produire une description holiste de la culture à partir de l’observation. Bien que l’on croie parfois que les écrits ethnographiques sont objectifs, toute description est en réalité marquée et orientée par une théorie. À travers l’examen de la façon dont le chamanisme a été traité, l’auteur montre qu’expliciter les présupposés théoriques qui les sous-tendent permettrait d’obtenir de meilleures ethnographies.Mots-clés : chamanisme, cognition, heuristique, Finlande. The purpose of ethnography is to produce a holistic description of the culture under scrutiny. Although ethnographic writing is often described as objective, every ethnographic description is always biased by an underlying theory. Through a discussion of how the phenomenon of shamanism has been treated by ethnographers the author shows that better ethnographies could be obtained by making theoretical presuppositions explicit and visible.Keywords : shamanism, cognition, heuristics, FinlandPohjoisen uskonnollisuuden hypoteesi, samanismi, itseorganisoituminen, teoria, kognitiotiede. Die Ethnographie zielt darauf, eine auf der Beobachtung ruhende holistische Beschreibung der Kultur zu liefern. Obwohl ethnographische Erzählungen oft als objektiv beschrieben werden, wird tatsächlich irgendeine Beschreibung von einer Theorie beeinflusst. Die Autorin zeigt wie Schamanismus von den Ethnographern behandelt wurde und betont, dass letzere bessere Ethnographien produzieren könnten, wenn sie die ihnen unterliegenden theoretischen Voraussetzungen erklären und sichtbar machen würden.Schlagwörter : Schamanismus, Kognition, Heuristik, Finnland. Etnografia on kulttuurintutkimuksen perustyökalu. Sen tarkoituksena on tuottaa kattava kuvaus kohteena olevasta kulttuurista. Vaikka etnografia usein esitetään puhtaana kuvailuna, on jokainen etnografinen esitys on aina sidoksissa kuvausta kirjoittavan tutkijan teoreettisiin lähtöoletuksiin. Käyttämällä esimerkkinä samanismitutkimusta, pyrin tässä artikkelissa osoittamaan, että teoriasidonnaisuus on etnografisessa esityksessä vahvuus, mikäli se on tietoista ja teoreettiset lähtökohdat kerrotaan myös lukijalle. Etnografiassa vallalla oleva teoriakielteisyys johtaa sitä vastoin täysin päinvastaiseen lopputulokseen ja tuottaa sekä huonoa tiedettä, että huonoa etnografiaa.Keywords : shamanism, cognition, heuristics, FinlandPohjoisen uskonnollisuuden hypoteesi, samanismi, itseorganisoituminen, teoria, kognitiotiede.
