La vie et l’art, deux réponses a la mort cosmique

La vie d’une part, ensemble de processus qui caractérisent les êtres vivants, et l’art d’autre part, production de certains individus de l’espèce humaine (les artistes), paraissent à priori deux concepts bien différents. On montre ici qu’ils présentent en fait des ressemblances fondamentales. Ainsi, en s’opposant, par l’imaginaire, à la réalité du monde, l’art refait d’une certaine manière, ce que faisait le vivant en s’opposant transitoirement au nivellement thermodynamique des systèmes physiques isolés. Par des procédés certes différents, la vie comme l’art visent tous les deux à s’opposer à cette mort thermodynamique qui caractérise l’univers physique. Ainsi l’homme recrée par son art ce que la vie avait esquissé avant lui: une illusion de désobéissance à l’égard des lois du monde matériel. Une telle parenté entre les deux concepts, qui montre que l’exercice du cerveau humain s’effectue à l’image du fonctionnement de la vie, traduit également l’existence d’une remarquable continuité entre l’animalité et l’humanité qui en est issue.Mots-clés : vie, art, thermodynamique, mort, poésie. Life is a group of processes which are the distinguishing features of living beings. Art is the work produced by certain individuals belonging to the human race, i.e. artists. In theory, life and art appear to be very different concepts. The present article shows that in fact they display quite basic similarities. When art, through the workings of the mind, stands in opposition to the real world, it is, to a certain extent, doing what the living organism did in its temporary resistance to the thermodynamic levelling of isolated physical systems. Through clearly different processes, life and art both endeavour to combat the thermodynamic death which is a feature of the physical universe. In art a human recreates what life has sketched out in advance, i.e. the illusion of disobeying the laws of the physical world. Such a link between the two concepts, showing that the workings of the human brain operate in the image of the workings of life, can also be seen as evidence of an outstanding level of continuity between animal life and the human life which arose from it.Keywords : life, art, thermodynamics, death, poetry.
