This article proposes a reading of “Self-Reliance” from the point of view of Wittgenstein’s ethics. Emerson speaks of self-reliance as “a poor external way of speaking,” we attempt to show that the notions of elucidation and grammar are fruitful to achieve a better understanding of this expression and the argumentative movement of this essay.Keywords :
