Attac et le renouveau de l’antilibéralisme

En prenant l’exemple de l’association Attac en France, cet article tente de comprendre comment le mouvement « antimondialisation » né dans les années 1990 a contribué à renouveler la critique antilibérale. À la croisée des mobilisations, Attac s’est immiscée entre deux pôles traditionnels du paysage politique, nationaliste-protectionniste d’une part, et marxiste-internationaliste d’autre part. Tout en défendant l’idée d’un alliage inédit entre étatisme et démocratie participative, cette association a cependant évolué dans le sens d’une organisation classique de la gauche française, laissant progressivement de côté ses revendications globales au profit d’enjeux nationaux et locaux. Si Attac incarne le passage de l’anticapitalisme à l’antilibéralisme, elle ne parvient néanmoins pas à proposer un nouveau projet politique émancipateur. Taking the Attac association in France as a case in point, this article tries to understand how the “anti-globalization” movement born in the 1990s helped revive anti-liberalism. Attac positioned itself at the crossing of the currents, between two traditional poles in the political landscape : protectionist nationalism and Marxist internationalism. But even as it championed a new synthesis of state control and participatory democracy, the association evolved into a classic organization of the French left wing, whose global concerns gradually gave way to national and local issues. Attac may well exemplify the passage from anticapitalism to antiliberalism, it nonetheless proposes a new and emancipatory political programme.
