Le mouvement des intermittents du spectacle : entre précarité démobilisatrice et précaires mobilisateurs

Résumé : Alors que les mobilisations de précaires sont généralement considérées comme improbables, le mouvement des intermittents du spectacle invite à interroger à nouveaux frais les relations entre précarité et mobilisation collective. Le processus avéré ou anticipé de précarisation (perte de ressources financières et affaiblissement de l'intégration professionnelle) forme un facteur déterminant du non-engagement et de la défection. Mais l'effet démobilisateur de la précarité d'emploi structurelle peut être compensé par les ressources individuelles et collectives dont disposent les intermittents. Plus encore, l'expérience d'un emploi précaire conduit ici à la constitution de réseaux d'information et d'entraide qui, dans l'univers concurrentiel et morcelé du spectacle, facilite l'organisation de la protestation collective. Enfin, mobilisée comme label, la « précarité » a même servi l'élargissement de la cause des intermittents du spectacle et, partant, l'ampleur de leur mouvement.
The protest movement of the "intermittents du spectacle": Precarity as a cause for defection or as a label for activists
Mobilizations of precarious people generally seem to be unlikely. Yet, the protest movement of the "intermittents du spectacle" ("temporary show-business workers") is a good opportunity to question the relationship between job insecurity and mobilization. Although actual or anticipated pauperization (lower income and weaker professional integration) is responsible for apathy and defections, the effect of the structural lack of job security can be compensated by the individual and collective resources that these workers dispose. Moreover, the common experience of job insecurity helps to create information and cooperation networks, which make mobilization easier in such a competitive and scattered economic sector. Finally, job insecurity, when used as a label, has even contributed to extending the cause of "intermittents du spectacle" and, as a consequence, to strengthening the movement.
