Le groupe Balint a cinquante ans

Michael Balint (1896-1970) médecin et biochimiste hongrois, devenu psychanalyste dans la filiation de Ferenczi, choisit la Grande-Bretagne comme lieu d’exil en 1939. Installé à Londres en 1947 et chercheur à la Clinique Tavistock, il répond à la demande d’aide d’Enid Albu qui dirige un séminaire de « casework » pour travailleurs sociaux. Il va modifier la méthode de travail du séminaire en introduisant l’esprit du contrôle analytique hongrois et celui des petits groupes (Rickman et Bion). Ce modèle de formation à la relation, il propose de l’expérimenter auprès des médecins dans le cadre du National Heath Service. Le groupe Balint connait un grand succès et entraîne un mouvement en France (traduction des livres de Balint, fondation d’une Société Médicale Balint) qui va s’étendre dans le monde, non sans avatars.Mots-clés : Thérapie par « petit groupe», « Casework », Contrôle analytique hongrois, « Groupe Balint», Clinique Tavistock, Première « Société Médicale Balint», Leader ana- lyste, Dérives. Michael Balint (1896-1970) was a Hungarian doctor and biochemist and became a psychoanalyst of the Ferenczi school then chose exile in Great Britain in 1939. He began his practice in London in 1947 and did research at Tavistock Clinic where he helped Enid Albu who ran a casework seminar for social workers there. He changed the way the seminars were run by introducing the spirit of Hungarian analytical control and those of other minor groups such as Rickman and Bion. He then suggested experimenting these techniques along with doctors working for the NHS.
