On peut décrire quatre étapes à l’histoire des rapports entre la psychanalyse et la psychiatrie françaises. La première, s’achevant avec la deuxième guerre mondiale et l’arrivée du régime de Vichy, a été celle des pionniers. La seconde, le temps de l’après-guerre jusqu’à la fin des années soixante, fut celle de l’expansion. La troisième, celle des années soixante-dix et quatre-vingt dix, fut celle de la forte emprise de la psychanalyse sur la psychiatrie. La quatrième, qui se dessine depuis une quinzaine d’années, semble marquée par un relatif déclin dont il s’agit de prendre la mesure et d’en saisir les raisons.Mots-clés : Psychanalyse et psychiatrie, Société psychanalytique de Paris, sychothérapie psychanalytique, Psychothérapie (formation), Évolution psychiatrique. There are four stages in the history of the links between psychoanalysis and psychiatry in France. The first concords with the start of the Second World War and the setting up of the Vichy regime and was a time of pioneering. The second phase, in the years following the war up until the end of the sixties, was that of expansion. The third, from the seventies to the nineties was a time of domination of psychoanalysis over psychiatry.
