Un historien du Moyen Âge clôt ce dossier en rappelant la durée et la complexité de toute aventure humaine. La mondialisation est d’abord une aventure urbaine : elle procède d’une histoire amorcée dès le 9e siècle. Le marché « mondial » date du 10e siècle. La libéralisation des échanges au 18e siècle a renoué avec une situation antérieure. Conclusion : la mondialisation que nous redoutons ou voulons apprivoiser aujourd’hui est le produit, dans la longue durée, de l’évolution des sociétés qui y participent, et d’abord à travers leur développement urbain. A historian of the Middle Ages closes this file by recalling the length and complexity of all human adventures. Globalization is first an urban adventure ; it results from a history begun in the 9th century. The « world » market dates from the 10th century. The liberalization of exchanges in the 18th century harkened back to a previous situation. Conclusion : the globalization that we fear or want to tame today is the product, in the long term, of the development of the societies that participate in it, and at the outset through their urban development.
